Presidency of the Seventy: Present Members

 

Elder L. Aldin Porter

Sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 4, 1987, at age 55, and sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy on April 1, 1989; sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 6, 1991; called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1992, and sustained Oct. 3, 1992. Former counselor in the Boise Idaho Temple presidency, president of the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission, regional representative, stake president, and bishop. A graduate of BYU, he was an executive of a financial planning company. Born June 30, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to J. Lloyd and Revon Hayward Porter; wife, Shirley Palmer Porter, parents of six children.


Elder Joe J. Christensen

Sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 1, 1989, at age 59, while serving as president of Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho; called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1993, and sustained Oct. 2, 1993. Former mission president in Mexico, president of the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, counselor in the General Presidency of the Sunday School, member of the General Board of the Young Men and Melchizedek Priesthood MIA; active in Scouting, serving as council commissioner and a member of the National Exploring Standing Committee. Received bachelor's degree from BYU, doctorate in education from Washington State University. Served as associate commissioner of education for the Church Educational System and has been director of several institutes of religion. Born July 21, 1929, in Banida, Idaho, to Joseph A. and Goldie Miles Christensen. Wife, Barbara Kohler Christensen, parents of six children.


Elder Monte J. Brough

Sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy Oct. 1, 1988, at age 49; sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy April 1, 1989; sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 6, 1991; called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1993, and sustained Oct. 2, 1993. Former regional representative, president of the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission, member of the Young Men General Board, and bishop. Received bachelor's degree and doctorate in business administration from University of Utah; former president and founder of financial management company. Born June 11, 1939, in Randolph, Utah, to Richard Muir and Gwendolyn Kearl Brough. Wife, Lanette Barker Brough, parents of seven children.


  Elder W. Eugene Hansen

Sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 1, 1989, at age 60; called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1993, and sustained Oct. 2, 1993. Former stake president, stake Young Men president, and bishop. Graduate of Utah State University, where he received bachelor's degree in agricultural economics; received juris doctorate from the University of Utah; former trial lawyer, president of the Utah State Bar Association; served on active duty in the Army during the Korean War, and in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1950-1980. Born Aug. 23, 1928, in Tremonton, Utah, to Warren E. and Ruth Steed Hansen. Wife, Jeanine Showell Hansen, parents of six children.


Elder Jack H Goaslind

Young Men general president. Sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy Sept. 30, 1978, at age 50, and served in the Presidency of the Seventy from Oct. 6, 1985 to Aug. 15, 1987; called a second time to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1995, and sustained Sept. 30, 1995. Young Men general president, and former counselor in Aaronic Priesthood MIA general presidency, former president of the Arizona Tempe Mission, regional representative, stake president and bishop. Graduate of University of Utah; was vice president of a metals corporation, also served as officer in U.S. Air Force. Born April 18, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jack H.
and Anita Jack Goaslind. Wife, Gwen Caroline Bradford Goaslind, parents of six children.


Elder Harold G. Hillam

Sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy March 31, 1990, at age 54; sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 6, 1991; called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1995, and sustained Sept. 30, 1995. Former regional representative, and was president of the Portugal Lisbon Mission, stake president and counselor. An orthodontist, he has been president of the Idaho Falls (Idaho) Dental Society, Idaho State Orthodontic Society, president of the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists, and president of the Teton Peaks Council, Boy Scouts of America. Born Sept. 1, 1935, at Sugar City, Idaho, to Gordon R. and Florence Evelyn Skidmore Hillam. Wife, Carol Lois Rasmussen Hillam, parents of seven children.


  Elder Earl C. Tingey

Called to the First Quorum of the Seventy Dec. 5, 1990, at age 56, and sustained April 6, 1991; called to the Presidency of the Seventy Aug. 15, 1996, and sustained Oct. 5, 1996. Former regional representative, president of the Australia Sydney Mission, counselor in the presidencies of the Eastern States, Utah North and Utah Ogden missions, and bishop. Formerly corporate attorney for Kennecott Copper Corp.; graduated from the University of Utah Law School and earned a master's degree from New York University. Born June 11, 1934, in Bountiful, Utah, to William W. and Sylvia Carr Tingey. Wife, Joanne Wells Tingey, parents of four children.
