Standards Night
The Young Women Leadership Handbook states that "a standards event is a special program that emphasizes eternal goals and moral values. It should be based on the last part of the Young Women Theme: 'We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values, we will be prepared to make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.' The standards event should encourage the young women to live the standards now that will bring them to the Savior."
Missionaries are encouraged to focus on preparing for the temple first and their mission second. If they are prepared and worthy to go to the temple, they are prepared and worthy to go on a mission. Give each person an invitation which looks like a mission call. They've been called to go to (wherever you live) mission and are to report to the MTC (your ward building) at __time. Have it be a missionary training activity. Invite the stake and ward missionaries to help teach them the first discussion, door approaches, and missionary scriptures. Sing "Called to Serve" and "I Hope They Call Me on a Mission." Use ideas from Missionary Night.
Give a musical presentation. e.g.--"When It's Love"
The Temple--A Symbol of Our Membership
Give a temple slide show with songs about the temple. Explain, as much as is appropriate, the sacred ordinances that take place there. Have several people who have attended the temple share their experiences, describe their feelings about the temple and bear their testimony about how it brings us to Christ. In the talks, the speakers should remind them that they can enter the temple now for baptisms for the dead and should seek to be worthy to hold a temple recommend. Give a picture of a temple to each person who attends. (see also Brides Night)
What Kind of Man Do You Want to Marry?
Shows how Gospel principles can help choose a worthy and righteous husband while ignoring those principles could lead to choosing a husband that may or may not contribute to a happy life. There are lots of guys out there and they're all different. You can't just choose one like you choose a candy bar.
Have Leaders and parents share their perspective and values about marriage and the temple and how to have an eternal marriage (i.e. good decisions, proper dating, preparing for wifehood and motherhood)
Stake President/Standards of Youth:
One stake Pres conducted an open discussion on the standards of youth. His focus was "If you want temple marriage and eternal life, but by not following the prophet now, odds are you will not attain that goal." He lead an open discussion on each area of the 'For Strength of Youth'. He was well prepared with statistics, stories, quotes and scriptures for each question. The youth with his leadership drafted their own stake title of liberty. Only a very in tune, loving, prepared leader could do this, but it was great and had a lasting effect on many youth.
